INTERESTING DAY'S OUTING

OTAKI CHILDREN'S TRIP TO WELLINGTON On Wednesday, a number of children from the Otaki State School, under the guidan.ee of the headmaster, Mr. J. E. James, and other teachers, visited Wellington. Thc pariy arrived in Wellington about 11 a.m. and returned tired but happy by thc evening train. Tne party of 37 children of thc. senior classes of the school tourecl the city and its environs and visited a number of factories and places oi intercst. The party consistcd oi boys and girls, in about equal numbers, and included three from thc Feltiiam School at Otaki. In the morning the party, by bus, went to the top of Mount Victoria to "see the sights" and then went to the Clyde Quay School for lunch They were the guests of the Standard 6 pupils, under the guidancc of the headmaster of the school, Mr. Hayes, and were provided with milk to have with the lunches they hau brought from home. Tlie afternoon was a busy one Dividing into three sections under their headmaster, Mr. James, Ihe first assistant, Mr. W. H. Townrow, and the first woman assistant teacher, Miss C. Keddell, they saw an engineering works, an ice-cream factory and cold store, and a calce and chocoiate cream factory. Then united again, they went to the corporation milk station. After that, a dozen went to see a newspaper printed, the remainder filling in the time with a short visit to the hobbies exhibition. The visit to Kelburn was made by cable car. After the visit to the observato,ry and the weather office, a walk 'through the ; Botariical' Gardensf, Sydney Street Cemetery, and Parliament Grounds brought the party to the train for home. Arrangements in Wellington had been made by the Wellington Junior Chamber ^f Commerce. Letter of Welcome The president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, in Wellington, in excending a welcome to the boys and girls of the school, stated: — "Dear boys and girls, It is my pleasare to welcome you all to WellingLon on behalf of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, and to express Jie hope that you will remember and^enjoy this visit. We are glad ■^o have helped the Otaki State School in making arrangements for you to enjoy these factories and other places of interest, and I trust you will all see something of educational value. Your school is to be congratulated on this enterprising rnove, and the Jaycees of Wellington are pleased to help in any way. — Yours for a happy day, Mr. J. W. Hcinmann, president." The programme as submitted v/as:— On' W.C.C. bus to Mt. Vic'oria for views of Wellington and suburbs, lunch, visit to Precision Engineering Works, Adams Bruce, Frczen Products for ice creams, Embassy Theatre, hobbies exhibicion, vicw machinery at Evening Post, visit to milk depot, Dominion Mhscrvatory, Botanical gardens, Kelburn cable car and then home
