SOFTBALL COMPETITION
RESULTS OF SATURDAY'S PLAY A further stage of the first; round of the Horowhenua Softball Association's championship competiticn was played otf on Saturday, considerable improvement being seen in the standard of play. The second round should see keen competltion among senior players for the top positions. . Playing against a handicap of 25,, Otaki Aces defeated Kimberley 38 — 36 at Rugby Park, Levin. Kimberley opened the innings with a series of powerful drives to the outfield, and had Otaki Aces fully extended to the six innings before they slackened off and Otaki Aces caught up to win by the narrow margin of two points. Ajax A travelled to Otaki to play Raukawa and Ajax B, to play Otaki Colts B. In the former game, Raukawa, with a handicap of 10, defeated Ajax 13 — 10. In the latter, Ajax easily overtook Colts B's handicap of 20 to win 42 — 32. Colts put up a very fine performance against a much more experienced team. In the women's matches, played at Rugby Park, Tuis secured a 38 — 25 win over Otaki B. The standard of play was very high. The Otaki team put up a solid fight and took their defeat very well after a hard game. Playing their second game,. Ajax were beaten by Raukawa 24 — 10. Ajax played a good game and should improve with more experience. Men's scoring results: Aces 36 runs, 2 homers; Kimberley (hcp 25) 9 runs; Ajax 9 runs, 1 homer; Colts B (hcp 20) 12 runs; Ajax B 37 runs, 5 homers. Women's scoring results: Raukawa 21 runs, 3 homers; Ajax 10 runs; Tuis 38 runs; Otaki B (hcp 20) 5 runs.
