JUNIOR CIRCLE CELEBRATES FIRST BIRTHDAY The first birthday of the Junior Circle of the Levin Women's Iimitute was celebrated in St. Mary's Hall recently. Miss Bowden, the president, welcomed a large gathering of friends and visitors from neighbouring institutes, and said she hoped that all present would e'njoy the items arranged by senior and junior members. Ihe first was a play by the Junior Instirute called "Gome to the Ball," in which the characters were Misses Mary Hannan, Beth Blenkhorn, Verna Terry, Joan Newman, Dorothy Johnson and Mrs. Bai. Aceompanied by Mrs. Allen, Miss Bradley sang two solos. A choir of six girls, Misses Jean Bowden, Ruth Tabor, Mary Hannon, Joan Newman, Verna Terry and May Harrison, sang two numbers. Mrs. Taylor followed with two solos after which a humorous sketch, "It's a Pleasure," was enacted by Mesdames Nichol and Perigo. The !choir favoured the gathering with two more numbers and Mr. Bai, aceompanied by his wife, found favour with several items on his guitar. Miss Bowden then entercained with two humorous recitations, "The Cockney Girl at the Cinema" and "Mac and Garge." After supper, which was served by the girls of the Junior Circle, the vice-president, Miss Ruth Tabor, presented Miss Bowden with a oouquet. Mesdames Hagan and McLean from the Kimberley Institute, Mesdames Carle and Rowe from Poroutawhao Institute and Mesdames Henderson and Hall from .Ihakara Institute each presented Miss Bowden with a bouquet on behalf of their institutes, and wished the juniors good luck. Miss Mafy Ilannan (secretary) and Miss Joan Newman (treasurer) were each presented with a bouquet from the Junior Circle and a shoulder spray from Mrs. Fenn (treasurer) from the senior institute. The birthday cake, made by Mrs. Bowden and iced by Mrs. Plaster, was formally cut by Mrs. Spencer, vice-president of the federation after the candle had been lit by Mrs. Kellaway, president of the Levin Women's Institute, and was blown out by Mesdames McLean and Carle. The remainder of the evening was spent in dancing, music being supplied by Mrs. Allen.
