SOFTBALL COMPETITION

IMPROVEMENT SEEN IN PLAY The Horowhenua Softball Association's competition was advanced a further stage on Saturday, all teams showing a decided improvemen't in play. Only one game was played in Levin between Ajax A and Kimberley. Ajax had a good handicap to make up, but eventually emerged the winners by 32— 23. Five games were played at Otaki and supporters had a day out, as some good matches were witnessed. The ladies' match between Tui A and Otaki A proved a good contest, but the handicap of ten in favour of Tuis was too big a gap for the Otaki team to bridge. Tuis won by 13 — 5. Another game of interest was that between Achilles, A and Raukawa. Both sides showed good teamwork, but Achilles proved too strong for their opponents, winning by 22 — 8. The results were as follows: Ajax A 32 (29 runs and 3 homers), beat Kimberley 23 (handicap of 20 and three runs) ; Achilles A 22 (20 runs and 2 homers), beat Raukawa 8, (8 runs no homers) ; Otaki Colts B 19 (handicap of 10, 7 runs and 2 homers), lost -to. Achilles . B 29 (28 runs and 1 homer) ; Raukawa Ladies 24 (22 runs and 2 homers), beat Otaki B 22 (handicap of 20 and 2 runs) ; Tui A 13 (handicap of 10 and 3 runs) , beat Otaki Ladies A 5 (5 runs no homers) ; Ajax B 20 (19 runs and 1 homer), beat Otaki Colts A 8 (8 runs and no homers) .
