Plunket Room— Play Centre Asking' if sufficient land could be made available on the Levin Park Domain for the erection of a combined Plunket room and children's play centre, a letter was received from the Levin Junior Chamber of Commerce at the monthly meeting of the Levin Borough Council on Monday night. The Mayor (Mr. H. .B. Burdekin) said the idea was to use the .land on the Salisbury Street frontage of the domain, near the present play area, and for that the council would have to obtain the consent of the Crown Lands Department. It was essential that wherever children congregated it should be away from main thoroughfares or traffic routes, and the proposed site was very favourable in that respect. The Junior Chamber had offered to do the whole of the labour voluntarily, under supervision, when materials were available. There would only be the material cost of about £200 or £300. There were some difficulties, but they could probably be overcome. Cr. H. E. Bowen thought the location was ideal if it could be made available." On the suggestion of Cr. F. E. Parker, it was resolved to defer a decision until the next meeting the town clerk (Mr. H. L. Jenkins) to advise the required procedure for making the land available.
