HALL SHIELD CRICKET
HOROWHENUA COMPETITION Games in the Hall Shield cricket competition were resumed in fine weather on Saturday. College A suifered an innings at the hands of Paraparaumu. ' Paraparaumu batted first and made a total of 136, Crow (44), Keogh (39) and Reeve (38) being the only double-figure scorers. Bowling for College, Andrews took five for 44 and Giles two fOr 18. In their first innings College were dismissed for only 44 runs. MacFarlane (18 not out) and Gwynn (16) were the only .'players to stand up to th'e erratic bowling on the rough pitch. Reeve took five wickets for 17 runs and Hadfield tfiree for eight. College's second innings yielded 39 runs, Walker, with a knock of 12, including one six and a four, being ,:the main contributor, King. and Reeve each took four wickets at a low cost. Otaki B had difficulty in coping with the more experienced Levin team in their game at Weraroa. Levin, who batted first,. built up a total of 226 against Otaki's two innings score of 78. Galloway retired with 104 to his credit and the honour of making the first ccnniry of the season. Bowling for Otaki. Ilakaraia took two wickets for 25 runs. Otaki in ihe first innings made 35, Shernack sccuring 21 of this total. Mccldings (Levin) took four for two. In their second innings Otaki made 43, Shernack again reacliing doublc figurcs with 14. I-Iudson (Levin) Btook four for 17. Weraroa won by an innings in their match with College B. The College boys were not up to the standard of the Weraroa players, and it was a pity that the boys had to face Weraroa's fast bowler for the whole of the first innings. College opened the batting and made a total of 23 runs. Whelan with 11 runs headed the batsmen. Bowling for Weraroa, Saunders took seven wickets for 11 runs, including five wickets with the hat trick in the one over. Weraroa made 112, France (26) and Wallace (19) being the principal scorers. Bowling for College, Lambert took five wickets for 22 runs. In their second innings College made 33 runs, Vinsen (11) and Whelan (7) being the
only players to withstand the bowling. France took four wickets for seven runs. Wellington Team's Visit The Anialgamaied Bricks Cricket Club sent a team to Otaki during the weekend under the captaincy of Mr. Fred de Clifford, an erstwhile resident of Otaki, to meet members of the Otaki Club. The visitors made 125, while Otaki made 58 in their first innings and 57 for three wickets in the second. The outfield, which is in a very rough state, was the means of many runs being lost. Mr. Cahill extended a welcome to the visitors, and expressed a hope that they would again visit Otaki later in the season.
