EXCELtENT GAMES AT LEVIN A visiting softball team from Wanganui (Red Sox) spent a very enjoyable day at Rugby Park during rhe weekend, and some excellent play was witnessed by a crowd estimated at over 200, which is a good inaication that this game has oecome one of the most popular summer sports in Levin. Supporters were present from Otaki to see ihe games, which -were played in 'the best sportsmanship, a fact which' was appreciated by those present. . The first game was played in the morning between Red Sox and Achilles A irorh the Boys' Training Cenire. This' game proved very exciting;* Red'^ Sox s ■ having the advantage up to the third ihnings with a lead of: 19-^-4. In the fourth innings, Achilles settled down and; soon had Red Sox rattled, making 13 runs in the last innings, which was a wonderful recovery. The game finished- 29— 27 in the visitors' favour. The second game, played in the afternoon, saw Red Sox go under to Ajax A. This game was outstanding because of the excellent outfield'ing by Ajax, and the visitors found it hard to break through the strong Ajax defence. In the fifth innings Aj ax had a ■ good lead of 18 — 9, with the visitors trying hard to bridge the gap, but Ajax proved coo good and the game finished 24 — 12 in the home side's favour. The iaaies' game between Zemba and Ajax resulted in a win for Ajax by 5 — 3. Both fjides gave a good display, although anly newoomers to the game, ancl they >hould improve as the season progresses. Details of the scores were: — Men's: Red Sox 29 (23 runs and 6 homers), beat Achilles A 27 (21 runs and 6 homers) ; Ajax 24 (23 runs and one homer) , beat Red Sox 12 (12 runs and no homers). Lad.ies: Zemba 3 (3 runs and no homers) , lost to Ajax 5 (5 runs and no hdfmers).
