HIDDEN TAXES
Received Thursdav, 7 ji.m. LONDON, Nov. 14. The Chancellor of the Exehequer, Mr. Hugh Dalton, told a Fabian Society meeting iu London last night that he had no doubt that income tax at present levels was a greater discouragement to pi'oductive effort than taxes on commodities. He added ^that a recejit experienee disproved the'old idea that direet taxation was in all circumstances better than ind^rect.
