AUCKLAND, Nov. 12. A wallet-stealin^ gang of at leust thrcd men is operating successfully m Auckland and provincial towns. Aloney stolen from elothing hanging in shops and offices totals nearly £500 in six weeks. The cases reported to the poliee reveal the astonishing number of people who leave substaiilial sums in coals hung in offices and other places of eniployment. The system of the thieves is for two, sometimes three men, to enter a shop or otlice and engage the proprietor or assistant in conversation, to examine an article and to inquire the price. Nine Auckland shopkeepers have suffenul losses in this way, ranging from £95 to £7 each, the total being £38(5. These are only a few of the cases reported.
