When the conuniltee conveneil he suid he was chairman of the sociai committee which was due to nieet at 5 p.111., adiling that he would leave the meeting at that hour if delegates persisted in a discussion on minor points. " Ivven if J had streagth and patience to ondure another live hours like this committee spent yesterdny, I luiven't time, " he said. When the deadline canie he duly walked out leaving the otlier delegates biekering for the next three hours. J11 an eil'ort to expedite the business of the sociai eonunittee, Sir (.'ari Berendsen proposed a night meoting but the committee rejected the suggestion.
