Otaki Golfer a Find The find of the rjf.cent golf tournament at Palmerston North was unquestionably the 24-year-old, curly-haired E. H. Gray, of Otaki, who scored 76 and 79 in the ftrst two rounds. Before the war Gray had scarcely touched a club. He took up the game in earnest after 'he returned to New Zealand in 1944 following service overseas with the Air Force. He used to potter about the paddocks with clubs and balls. He is completely selftaught. He's a grand youngster, too, one of those happy-go-lucky fellows who is not troubled by nerves. Someone asked him before he went out for his second round whether he was nervous. Gray just chuckled and said: "I think I. had all the nervousness knocked out of me on the other side." — Auckland Weekly News.
