CHEAP TOMATOES— BUT NOT FORUS

Received Monday, 7 p.m. SUVA, Oct. 28. Tiji has sufficient good ciuality tomatoes to supply any shortages in New Zealand dtiring the winter and spring apart from the Dominion's imports from its own island territories. But when an application for the ex- ' port of tomatoes from Fiji was made in October, 1945, and again this season, the oificial reply was a relusal "hecause the New Zealand market is already suppliad." Press messages quoting high retail prices for tomatoes in New Zealand during Septemher and Octoher, says the Fiji Times, makes the official reply a mystery to growers. Best tomatoes at the Snva markets today cost 3d to 6d a pound.
