SHANNON BOWLING CLUB

OPENING MARRED BY RAIN In spite of miserable weather conditions, there was a large gathering of bowling enthusiasts on the Shannon Bowling Club's greens on Saturday afternoon for then opening of the 1946-47 season. Rinks were present from the Foxton, Levin and Levin Central Clubs, and there were visitors present from Palmerston North Clubs. The president, Mr. E. J. Spencer, extended a welcome to the visiting rinks and players, and wished their respective clubs every success in the coming season. The season was then declared officially open by Mrs. J. T. Bovis bowling down the first kitty. Although there was a wind blowing and occasional rain falling, a most enjoyable day was spent, and the afternoon tea served by the ladies was greatly appreciated. The greens are in very good order and the season promises to be a good one. A large membership is expected, and especially noticeable is the number of young men joining the club.
