LEVIN CROQUET CLUB

FIRST GAMES OF SEASON The Levin Croquet Club opened its 1946-47 season last week. There was a record attendance of visitors and many new members were also welcomed. ■ . - Before calling on the patron of the club, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, to declare the green open, the president, Mrs. W. Bull, thanked those who had assisted in the top dressr ing of the green in preparation for :he new season, and members of ;he Levin Bowling Club for the loan of the hecessary equipment.The caretaker, Mr. Scott, was complimented -by the president on the excellent conditipn of the law'ns and surroundings. When opening ,he green, Mr. Burdekin said he was sure the women wo.uld appreciate playing in -such restful surroundings, away from the worries and cares of everyday life. He thanked them for giving him the privilege of attending, and wish'ed the club every success for the coming season. Mrs. Burdekin played the flrst ball through the hoops and was mesented with a posy by Mrs. H. Walker, one of the club's life members. Afternoon tea was served to all present, including the bowlers who were invited in for tea. Mr. Lemnon, on behalf of the bowlers, hanked the ladies for their hospitality. Competitions « were won as follows: — Golf croquet: Mrs. Silverwood (Otaki)., Ladder: Mrs. Skerman (New Plymouth) . Roqueting .o peg: Mrs. Weston (Levin).
