LONDOS RELUCTANT TO MEET McCREADY
(By
One cannot help thinking that -he apparent • reluctance Qf Jim Londos, world heavyweight champion, to meet Earl McCready, Sritish Empire champion, has some significance. It may well bc hat he considers McCready a postible danger to the-title, which he has held securely for a number of /ears. Waltef' Miller has apparmtly the samc hnpr^ssion and ihat s why he is so eager for McCready to meet the- champion. McCready is undoubtedly the bost wrestler ever to visit New Zeaiand. md all who hsive seen him in ae.tion .vill agree that he should be a hard man for LondoM to master. ' In their latt 'bout, which was Tought in Atnorica, McCready "s :econd, Dean Debton, tlirew in the towel as soon as Londos had ;ecured his favourite leg hold, soon after the commencement of the :>out. According to Miller, McJready has improved greatly since hen a.nd, if- Londos fails to come bo New Zeaiand, McCready wiil go -o Australia. ",If he fails to secure a bout with.; the champion, McCready will fight him in. the streets f necessary," said Miller. The general. opinion now is that by refusing to meet McCready, Londos * has shown that he is ifraid of the Canadian. If there is any truth behind this, then McCready has every riglit to claim the itle. Meanwhile, events are being dosely watched by sportsmen in Australasia.
