SNOW IN CANTERBURY.

CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 20. After a fairly mild winter, most parts of Canterbury had snow today. Sleet fell in Christchurch in the morning and about 4 p.m. tliick snow fell for about 20 minutes. Rain before and after prevented the snow settling. The dro.p in temperature was sliarp. Lambing is almost over on the plains and few losses are expected. In the foothills districts up to three inclies fell but was washed, away by the later rain. Late lambing in the hill country may be affected. The weather appeared to be clearing this eveuing.
