INVERCARGILL, Oct. 20. The first snow of the year fell in Invercargill today but the fiakes melted as soon as they liit the ground. Wintry conditions Were experienced throughout the province, the weather being much worsc than anything experieneed in. the deptlf of winter. , Tlie cold southwest wind was also aeeO'mpatued by intermittent hail and rain showers. Snow was "reported to be falling heavily at Queenstown at 8 o'clock tonight.
