"I do not foroseo that it Will be possible to lift tvre rationing on motor car and truck sizes in popular deinand until some time in 1947," said the secretary ot the New Zealand Tyre Importers' Association (Mr. F. A. Knight) today. "For a short period some good shipments reached New Zealand which made it possible to increase the monthly quotas, but, unfortunatelv due to raw material shortages, other tlian riibber, plant and labour shortages, shipping and industrial diffieultjes, and the enc/rmous demands on Australia Ganada and Great Britain, the increased flow to New Zealand is not being tnain tained, " added Mr. Knight. "It must not be overlooked that the countries which have been supplying tvres to New Zealand have themselves had strict rationing for a nuniber of years, and so far are unable to meet their domestiidemands." It was impossible to say what quantities of tyres would reach New Zealajid in the next few montlis, but it was hoped 1947 would see an ^ppfemAbl'e^easiiig bf the situation.'. M;i; Knight' ftSid thkt\ every thing 'pdssib'k was being done to relieve the plight oi the tyre users, partieularlv the privatc motor car owners, who had been Unablc to purehase new tyres for over foui vears. The belief that , there were tvrc docks being held in New Zealand fot Some reason was quite erroneous. Ne sucli stocksf existed, and the monthly quotas comprised the maximum possible quantities in' the yarious sizes.
