Sergeant McGettigen had mahe several attempts to • persuade the man to give himself up before he eonsented to do so, Sepior Detective D. McKenzie and Cpnstable E. Rippin, of Napier, came from Napier to investigate. Atfempted Murder Charge Cyril Waiter Goodman, 33, track- . layer, appeared before Mr. J. Miller, S.M., in the Napier Court this morning, charged with the attempted murder of Kathlegn Lucy Christiansen, at Dannevirke, on October 12. He was remanded to appear at Napier on October 21. The police stated that accused was arrested early on Sunday morning after his former wife had been admitted to the Dannevirke Public Hospital in a serious condition, resulting from a rifle wound. "The preliminary hearing is entirely dependent on the injured woman's progress," Detective-Spr-geant McKenzie informed the Magistrate.
