WOMEN'S DIVISION
BRANCH'S OCTOBER MEETING Mrs. C. Guerin presided at the October meeting of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers, held in Laurvig's Hall, on Monday afternoon. Seventeen members were present. Mrs. Guerin welcomed back Mrs. Allen and Miss Phyllis Allen after their recent illnesses. Mrs. I. Falconer .was also extended a welcome. A visitor to the meeting was Mrs. D. Fitzpatrick. It was agreed that the money in the post office savings bank should be withdrawn and an account opened with the Bank of New Zealand. Mrs. A. R. Mills was thanked for her donation of four tea towels. A letter of thanks from a grateful patient for giving her an opportunity to stay at; the division's rest home, "Kaianga Moe," was read. An invitation was received from the Shannon Women's Institute, asking members to attend their birthday party on October 24. Winners of the competitions held during the afternoon were as follows: — Spring flowers: Mrs. A. R. Mills 1, Mrs. L. H. Best 2, Mrs. K. Thomson 3. Baby's knitted singlet: Mesdames C. Guerin and Mills (equal) 1. Small plum pudding: Mrs. Mills 1. All the ladies shared the hostess duties in honour of the guest of the afternoon, Mrs. W. R. Mullins, who is leaving the district. Afternoon tea was served and a sweet-scented spring posy was presented to Mrs. Mullins by the president. In doing so she expressed the wish that Mrs. Mullins would be very happy in her new home and in the making of her garden, and that she would come back and see them all at the flower show. The guest expressed her thanks and appreciation of the gift presented her at the recent flower show.
