RANGIURU BRIDGE

NEW STRUCTURE DESIRED A notice of motion by Cr. Cook that plans afcid specifipations be obtained for a structure to replace the present Rangiuru Bridge was considered at Wednesday night's meeting of the Otaki Borough Council. Cr. Cook explained that some time ago the then overseer. to the borough, Mr. McMillan, had drawn up plans and specifications, but work had not been proceeded with. Cr. Cook stated that during his forty years in Otaki he had never seen the bed of the stream. lower, and in consequence there had been less trouble, while now was the time to effect improvement. He saw no obstacle to the carrying out of the work. The time had arrived, he maintained, to secure plans and specifications, and to call for tenders. There was now no surplus water, and there was no reason why the work should be delayed. The town clerk (Mr. Wilson) pointed out that plans, etc., had been prepared by Mr. Sladden some years ago. Cr. Cook considered these too elaborate, and he moved that work be done, allowing a bridge in culvert form, 24 feet long and 30 feet wide, and that the Public Works Department be asked to draw up plans and specifications. The council agreed to this being done.
