SHANNON PLUNKET SOCIETY
MEETING AND PRESENTATION Mrs. L. W. Wilson presided at the monthly meeting of the Shannon sub-branch of the Plunket Society, held on Monday afternoon. Those present were Mrs. E. L. Hyde (patron) , Mrs. F. Thurston (secretary and treasurer) and Mesdames J. Edmonds, C. Wishart, C. Tremewan, V. Bateman, C. Stern and J. A. Easton. -The balance sheet in connection with the recently-held Plunket ball was presented and disclosed quite a good credit balance. Satisfaction was expressed with the table purchased for the rooms. The district nurse's . report fop August was as follows: — "There were five new babies for the month all healthy and normal. The general health of the babies seen was good. Five visits were paid to Shannon and ten homes were .visited. Forty babies came to the rooms during the month and two pre-school children and forty-two adults." At the completion of the usual business all present joined in a friendly chat, while a delightful afternoon tea was served from a daintily set flower-bedecked table. The president (Mrs. Wilson) presented a multi-coloured bouquet of stocks to Mrs. Thurston, and in doing so said that it was not a pleasurable duty to farewell Mrs. Thurston, who for six years had carried out the duties of secretary and treasurer of the local branrh. In her kindness of heart she had done this because* no one else would take on the work. Mrs. Thurston had also been instrumental in interesting others in the work of the society. Mrs. J. A. Easton, a past president, thanked Mrs. Thurston for what she had done for the Plunket society and said that it had been done for the love of the movement, and they were all grateful to her for it. She extended best wishes to both Mr. and Mrs. Thurston in their future life. Mrs. J. Creigh spoke of Mrs. Thurston 's sympathetic understanding and kind nature. The next speaker, Mrs. E. L. Hyde, remarked on what a marvellous member Mrs. Thurston had been for the society and how she would be missed. As a memento of her association with the society, and in appreciation of the services she had rendered to it, Mrs. Wilson asked Mrs. Thurston to accept a handsome wall mirror.In her reply, Mrs. Thurston feelingly thanked everyone for their beautiful gift and stated that her association with the society had always been a pleasure, and that she would always have fond memories of her many friends and coworkers in the Plunket society in Shannon. It was later announced that »Mrs. Creigh had kindly consented to take over the duties of secretary and treasurer.
