Personal The engagement is announced oi Thelma, eldest daughter of Mrs. Johns and the late Mr. Johns, of Otaki, to Joseph, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Pike, of Otaki. The postmaster, Mr. Berry, may be leaving Otaki at the end of this month for Waipukurau. Mr. C. G. Anderson, of Taupo, will be Otaki's new postmaster. Whitebait Plentiful Whitebait has been very plentiful in the Otaki and Waitohu' Rivers this week. Bowling at Paekakariki The Paekakariki Bowling Club's green is at present in good order, •the planting of the Westport weed proving benefl'cial. Burglaries Prevalent Several petty burglaries have occurred at Paraparaumu of recent date and are keeping the police busy. Chinese Anniversary 1 The Chinese of Otaki and district, in common with other places, will observe tomorrow as a holiday in commemoration of the 35 th anniversary of the Republic of China. Trophies Stolen Mr. Wally Kilmister, at one timo a resident of Otaki, and who became a leading motor-cycle rider both in New Zealand and Engiand, had his residence in London visited by an unauthorised person, who, it is stated, stole some £1300 worth of trophies that he had won. Entrance was effected by climbing a drain pipe to a bathroom w'indow, thence to his sitting room.
