WEEK-END GOLF
ON THE LINKS AT BUCKLEY Golfing conditions were good at Buckley over the weekend and there was a good muster of members on the links -on Saturday afternoon. The October medal round was played, the winner being F. Picard with a.nett score of 70. Other cards handed in were as follows: — D. Higgie 72, H. Stern 72, B. Harris 73, W. Stern 73, J. Stern 74, V. Picard 75, C. Stern .75, V. Pope 75, R. S. Downes 76, C. Booker 77, H. Karena 77, J. Bell 80, J. Mabey 72, H. Mabey 74 and~E. Wilson 73. The fourball competition was taken a stage further on Saturday afternoon when H.. Stern and R. S. Downes defeated W. Stern and K. Thomson four up and two to play. On Sunday heavy rain fell in the morning, but the weather cleared in the afternoon and conditions were favourable for, golf. There was a large gathering of members on the links. A best ball stableford was played and the following were the results: — H. Stern and J. Chambers 41, J. Mabey and C. Stern 41, W. Stern and J. Bell 40, V. Picard -and E. Wilson 38, H. Mabey and K. Thomson 35, N. Mabey and R. Harding 34, C. Booker and J. Stern 24, V. Pope and H. Pope 34, B. Harris and D. Higgie 38, F. Picard and E. Homer 35. In the semi -final of the Goldfinch and Cousins Cup played over the weekend, H. Stern defeated K. Thomson, one up. H. Stern will now play V. Picard in the final. The following were the results of further games played in the fourball competition played on Sunday afternoon: — J. Mabey and J. Purcell defeated B. Harris and H. Pope four and three, J. Chambers and T. Boon defeated F. Picard and • N. Mabey one up. The 1946 championships are now drawing to a close. The finals to be played off are a.s follows: — Senior: E. T. Wilson plays F. Picard. Junior: C. Stern plays W. Stern. C grade: H. Karena plays C. Booker. Players are requested to complete these matches as soon as possible. In the heavy rain whieh fell on Sunday morning the match for the "top dog" honours was played off. The holders F. and V. Picard, proved too much for N. and H. Mabey. After an interesting match the holders won two up.
