WELLINGTON, Oct. 4. An inquiry lasting a week was conchuled by tlie Air Department today iiito the Kongotai fire and the report was lianded to the authorities who in■•■tigated tlie investigation. It is underrtood it was directed tovvard ascertaining the extent to- which the Air Force was committed in its responsibility for safeguarding sections of the building in charge of its persounel and whether ihere was any negligence on their part. lnsurance adjusters are still making their investigations. "We are certainly going to find out all we can, " commented oue underwriter. "There are quite a few theories but any diseussion at present in purely speculative. " It is understood that it has not yet been possible to arrive at satisfaetory couclusions concerning the lirst point if the outbreak of the fire. Bad weather has hampered salvage operations. The costs of salvage are running into over £300 a day and there are several weeks of work ahead yet at Rongotai.
