PLEA FOR JODL.
Received Thursday, 10 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 3.. The Times' Nuremberg correspondent says that opinion is tvidely held that, in relation to Bchacht 's and Von Papen 's acquittals, tlie death sentenee passed 011 J odl was unduly severe. It is pointed out that wliereas tlie court in discliarging iSchaclit, accepted liis inter pretation of eveiits on which tlie prosecution put an equally credible meaning, they entircly rejected Jodl's explanation of liis liandling of Hitler's orders and elforts to modify them. The judgment in calling Jodl ''the war's actual planner," disregarded his defence, namely, that wlien he returned to the Higli Command. after a long period of field service, plans for tlie invasion of Poiand were already in existence and so far from expecting war, he book«jd passages for a Alediterranean cruise. The correspondent says Jodl certainly was more staggered by tlie death sentenee than any man in.the dock.
