SCOUT DRIVE FOR FUNDS
EXPENSES OF BOYS TO WORLD JAMBOREE The Levin Boy Scout committee's scheme to raise funds to send, if possible, three Levin boys to the world scout jamboree, to be held in Frahee next August, is beginning to take'shape. It is hoped to hold a rally of scouts and guides in November to show the public the Kind of work which is undertaken oy these organisations. To raise nioney there is to be a bottle drive soon, covermg every house in the borough, and a shop day later on m the new year; perhaps, aiso, a Paddy's Market. it is not expected that these activities will raise the whole of the £500 or so that is needed. The main money-making scheme is to be potato growing. Mr. W. S. Long has very kindly lent the scouts the use of nearly four acres, and it it hoped very soon ' to have the ground ploughed and disced, so that che boys' can get on with the work of planting. Nearly every year quantities of seed potatoes go to waste because growers have not room for them. Before the committee buys the seed, there is a chance for anybody who has any spare seed potatoes in large or small quantities to give them to the scouts and so help to reduce their expenses. This project is being undertaken in a magnificent spirit of unselfish co-operation. Only three boys are qualified to go to the jamboree. It is an experience that every scout would dearly love to have, but those who cannot go are straining every nerve to help to send those who can. Anyone who has any seed potatoes, or would like to give a donation towards buying them, may ring the hon. secretary of the scout committee, Mr. A. C. Kennerley Cphone 60).
