WHITEBAIT PLENTIFUL
! The Manawatu River flowed with whitebait in the lower reaches yesterday. It was everywhere for the catching. Large hauls are recorded, one fisherman being credited with three cwt. The "run," which was reminiscent of the old days, continued throughout yester- , day. Conditions are a little different in other parts. The poorest white- | bait season in memory of some of ! the oldest residents is being 1 experienced in Taranaki. So far, i it is reported, whitebaiters have ; not yet experienced one good run, but Maori whitebaiters expect an j early improvement in the situation. | The present season is. considered to | be one of the worst at Porangahau ; for the past 25 years.
