levin music cltjb's evening A most enjoyable -and instructive svenlng was held recently in the Elorowhenua College library, when members of the Levin Music Club and their friends attended a gramophone reoital. The president,;' Mrs. / G. Bowers, welcomed the: guests, amon'g' whom were members; of the College Advisory •Committee, \ Mrs. W. Thomas, Mr. N. Byrne,; principal of the college, and mernoers of the staff. Mr. M. R. Smith then took charge| of the programme, which includedj a number of records frpm the; Ramsbotham Bequest, as/ well as1 some from his own collection. Mr. Smith's commentary on both the' composer and the performer o'f. each recording was most instructive, and was sgreatly appreciated by hi-s audience. The programme was as follows: — Invitation to the Waltz (Weber), Philadelphia Symphony Grchestra; Hungarian Rhapsody No. 6 (Liszt), Levitski; Valse Caprice (Rubenstein), Paderewski ; Del Tempio al ■Limitar Bizet) , Gigli and De 'Luca; Vado Corro (Donizetti), Bori and De Luca; Caprice E Flat- (Wienawski),Elman; Ronde des Lutins (Bazzini), Heifetz; Impromptu F Sharp Major (Chopin), de Pachmann; La Berceuse (Chopin), Backhaus; John Peel (Traditional), de Gorgo; A Brown Bird Singing (HaydnWood) , Hackett; The Juggler (Mozkowski), Levitski; Capriccio F Minor (Dohnanyi), Horowitz; Elegie (Massenet) , Caruso and Elman; Andante (Mendelssohn) , Kreisler; and Introduction and Tarantelle, (Sarasate) Prihoda. At the conclusion of the programme, Mr. F. H. Hudson, chairman of the Advisory Committee, speaking on behalf of the visitors, thanked the president and members of the club for giving them the opportunity of hearing such a delightful programme. Mrs. Bowers suitably replled and a hearty vote of 'than'ks to Mr. -Smith was carried by acclamation.
