SHIPPING STRIKE TO GO ON
^ WAGE BOARD REFUSES TO REVERSE DECISION Received Thursday, 7 p.m. WASH1X GTOX, Sept. 12. The Wage Stabilisation Board refused to reverse its decision not to approve wage inereases gained by the A.F.E. seamen's union in collective bnr gaining, because any increase for atdebodied seamen beyond 17A dollars monthly would seriously weaken the (fovernment's wage stabilisation pro- J gramine. Employers and the union had agreed to a wage increase of 271 dollars monthly. The ehairnian of the Board, Mr. Willard Wirtz, said there was 110 appeal from the decision which was made by four votes to two, with the Board 's labour niember dissenting. The strike will continue with tlie possibility of C.I.O. maritinie unions joining in. The C.I.O. Xational Alaritime Union announced that its national council will meet at Xew York to-day to consider striking to-morrow moriyng. The A.F.L. seamen's strike committee asked the A.F.L. and C.I.O. to call a 24-hour general strike throughout America as the result of tlie Board 's action. The Aletal Trades Council in San Franeisco voted to support the maritime strike. A spokesman said all sliipyards repair facilities in San Franeisco Bay will close down to-day. In response to an appeal by the Mayor of Xew York, Mr. O'Dwyer, the president of the International Brotherliood of Teamsters, Alr. Daniel Tobin, has ordered 10,000 meinbers striking in sympatliy with the Xew York drivers, to return to work to-day. Xew York strilcers are meeting later to-day to consider proposals for settlenient.
