N.Z. BOWLING ASSOCIATION
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE A meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Bowling Association was held recently, Mr. T. Lock presiding. The general manager of N.Z. Railways advised that the department had unfortunately been compelled to suspend the use of concession tickets on account of the shortage of accommodation arising out of the coal shortage. The department would be very happy to restore the usual concessions when normal services were resumed. The Union Steamship Coy. advised that as it was proposed to have only one class on the ferry steamers, no concessions in fares could be granted. The green research committee advised that it was willing to cooperate with the suggestion in Mr. Andrew Fletcher's letter by arranging a visit of delegates to Palmerston North, when a course of lectures and demonstrations would be carried out. Copies of the report of proceedings at an annual conference of greenkeepers to the Golf Association were forwarded, to be supplied to each councillor. It was decided that the matter should receive further consideration at the next meeting. The secretary of the Victorian Bowling Association wrote expressing thanks for the publicity which was being given to the Australian tournament, and advised that if an official invitation was received for Australian bowlers to visit New Zealand it would be favourably received. It was decided to advise that, in accordance with the letter addressed to Mr. A. M. Alluy, president of the Australian Bowling Council, any bowlers visiting New Zealand would be most welcome, and if possible, a number of matches would be arranged. It was, however, considered that owing to trahsport, aGcommodation and other difficulties, the time was not considered opportune to invite an official party of bowlers from overseas. The Dunedin Bowling Centre wrote regarding the enforcement of the 25 per cent. penalty for late payment of levy, and the secretary was authorised to reply that'if the lcvy was not received by December . 31 the penalty of 25 per cent. would be enforced. Mr. Roland Smith (councillor) wrote pointing out that some difficulties may arise in regard to the correct marking on bowls. After full consideration it was decided that the regulation adopted at the annual conference should receive a 1 fair trial, and that if desired the matter could be referred to the next half-yearly meeting of the council. i . ■ i
