OTAKI STATE SCHOOL
MEETING OF COMMITTEE A special meeting of the Otaki State School Committee was held on Monday night, the chairman, Mr. Harold Taylor, presiding. The main business of the meeting was to consider the resignaLion of Mrs. Joncs as carctaker at the school, which it was agreed to accept. Members of the committee expressed regret at the loss of her services. It was decided to write Mrs. Jones a letter of appreciation. Mr. J. Miller was appointed in her stead. It was decided to write to Mr. Silverwood and . thank him for his kindness in giving gratis attention to the school docks. Other business was held ovcr until the ordinary monthly meeting. Headmaster's Report The hcadmaster (Mr. James) reported that the roll at the end of the first term numbered 359 and at the end of the second 390. With 16 entered on the opening day of the third term and four withdrawn the total now stood at 402. The average attendance for the second term was 315, a great amount of sickness causing this low average. i "Two loads of shingle were ; sprcad on the back path," the , report continued, "but require some ! clay binding. The garden plots 1 have been hoed, lawns cut and the j hedges are in the process of being trimmed. The buildings have been left clean and are a credit to the cleaner. The coke and coal are exhausted, but there still remains a . fair amount of wood. It may be j necessary to have fires on odd days ; during this term. "It is tlie intention of the staff and children to hold a flower show ; this term. probably towards the ena ! of November. Some 15 calves and \ 24 gardens have been entered for ! the _ Horowhenua Boys' and Girls' j Agricultural Club's competitions. I The calf judging takes place at the school on November 20 at 1.30 p.m. and the finals at Levin on December 6 at 1 p.m."
