Mr. Byron Harvey, son of Mi;. Howard Harvey, of Cambridge •Street, who has been with^ the iRoyal Air Force in Britain 'and Europe, for 'the past -eight years, leaves England by the Rangitata on September 11 for New Zealand. ;He will be accompanied by his, wife. ' ' The Most Rev. Thomas O'Shea, .Archbishop of Wellington and :Metropolitan of New Zealand, will leave for Australia by air within the next two weeks to attend .the diamond jubilee of the ordination of the Archbishop of Brisbane, the Most. Rev. James Duhig. The .celebrations will be held in Brisbane on September 22 and 23. His intention of standing for Parliament in the Northern '.Maori electorate at the coming election, was announced by Mr. Henare Toka, a. prominent member of the Ratana movement, and son of the late Wiri Henare Toka, well-known leader of the Ngatiwhatua tribe. He is expert in Maori carving and ;is employed as Maori arts and crafts specialist in the North Auckland native schools. The Labour candidate to contr the Patea seat with the sitting member, Mr. W. A. Sheat (National) , will be Mr. Richard John O'Dea, of Hawera, barrister and solicitor. He is 36 years of age and is a son of the late Mr. P. O'Dea, a well-known barrister, who contested the same seat just 36 years ago in the interests of the Then Liberal Party. Mr. O'Dea at the age of 18 graduated LL.B. The ■following year he gained two senior university scholarships. and at 20. he graduated LL.M. with •first-class honours. In 1931 .he was admitted to the Bar. He served ■four and a-half years in the Air 'Force with the rank of flightdieutenant and was invalided .lorne after' being seriously injured during combat duties.
