Rotafians E. R. Winkler and D. P. Todd, of Levin, leave to-dayto attend the district assembly of Rotary at Timaru. Mr. and Mrs. E. Mulcahy, of Mahia, spent the week-end in Levin en route to their home, after a visit to Wellington. • Mr. and Mrs. Norman Vickers,-of Tokomaru Bay, and Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Vickers, of Wairoa, have been the guests of Mrs. W. G. Vickers, Bartholomew Road. Mr. C. H. Weston, K.C., has been selected to contest Wellington Central for the National Party. Three other nominees withdrew in his favour. Mr. Weston was the first New Zealand president of the National Party. After being associated with the New Zealand Meat Producers: Board since its inception in . 1922 Mr. James Begg, (Dunedin) has fetired and was farewelled at the annual meeting of the board. . Competing in the untrained voices section at the recent Wellington competitions, Miss Fay Kirkbeck, daughter of Mr. V. E. Kirkbeck, of Essex Street, Levin, gained second place. The placing entitles Miss Kirkbeck to a free scholarship in Wellington under Mr. Hamilton Dixon. Miss Betty JPowell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Powell, of Levin, competing in the North Island table tennis championships at Palmerston North on Saturday. won the ladies' bracelet, the ladies' doubles with Miss M. Wareham (Wellington) and the combined doubles with Mr. E. Boniface (Wellington) .
