LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
THIRD GRADE SELECTION Sir,— -In your issue of Friday last a correspOndent "Fair Play" took this union to tasfe over the selectfdn of their third grade team, and I would be glad of sufficient space to state the facts. Firstly, our two matches against Manawatu have been played against their third grade players, but whereas their competition is afi open grade, our's is for players under eighteen years of age. Arrangements were made with Manawatu that they would select players around nineteen years, and we would strengthen our team- with players around the same age, and our selector was instructed to draw on players in our junior competition, who were not older than nineteen. Secondly, the match with Wellington is against their fourth grade teams, whch is a competition for players under nineteen years, so the same arrangements were made with Wellington. I trust that "Fair Play" will see that this union has not resorted to the unsportsmanlike manner that he suggests, and would assure him that the members of the management cOmmittee are fully aware that no honour goes with a win (or lose) in an unsportsmanlike manner, nor does any honour go to the critic' who publicly critisizes without $rst making some effort to obtain the true facts. Yours etc., J. ZUPPICICH. Secretary, Horowhenua Rugby Union. Levin, Sept. 1. , .
