FOURBALL MATCH PLAYED WELCOME HOME FUNCTION 4 ' Last Saturday' afternooh saw a continuance of play in the Levin Golf Club's "match programme, when a f ourball best-ball bogey match was copipeted for by some 44 players." Steady rain fell during 'the early afternodn and "-this increased to a -downpour over th'e last nine holes, thus interferifig with many players in their scoring ability. Only five sides found their cards worthy of being hahded in, and these w'ere an excellent feature of good team work. The winners of the competition were D. P. Todd and M. R. Smith, who had a winning card of three up. They were closely followed by D. J. Sweetzer and S. C. Franklin, who also had a card of three up but lost on the count back. The scores from cards handed in were as follows: D. P. Todd and M. R. Smith and D. J. Sweetzer and S.'C. Franklin three up, J. N. McDonald and H. Bull two up, L. A. Whitham and H. Nicholson one down, W. Bull and D. E. Clark three down. Next Saturday's Match On Saturday afternoon next the annual match for the captain's crophy will take place. This particular game will be in the form of a Stapleford competition over 18 holes. Draw for play will be at 1.5 p.m. - Inter-Club Match On Sunday next members of the Levin Club will act as hosts to members of the Otaki Club, when the southern side pay their second visit of the present season to ihe Levin .links. The ultimate winner is well concealed, as in all the games played surprise results have eventuated. S. Ogier, E. R. Winkler, G. A. Hutcon, W. G. Phillips, H. Nicholson and W. C. Childs. General Notes The highlight of Saturday's plav was the win of D. P. Todd and M. R. Smith in the fourball game, Both players are f ully ; deserving of success, ' particularly the, former, who has gone along steadily over many years without having a winning break, but who nevertheless ig, ' always" a constant attender on the links. Such successes are always popular with the' remaining club members, "and should serve as an instance to those whose game is continually oh a low plane in that perseverance. ultimately pays results. The weather cleared enough during the week to enable ~ the greenkeeper to do his first complete cutting of the course, particularly on the fairways. If the present growth of grass continues, it will probably be necessary to make the cuttings more frequent. While the cutting is always expensive as compared to grazing, members will no doubt support the committee's action in full to enable such expenses to be met. In the previous issue mention was made of the advantage of playing all cup and handicap matches to schedule. This has now been borne out by two letters received locally asking for interclub matches with members from the Pukerua Bay and Boulcott Clubs, such games if possible, to be played in Levin this season. The match committee is in the fortunate position- of being able to accept both fixtuces, and the games will probably be played early in September and October, .The Pukerua Bay Club also suggested adding 'a few ladies to their team, so the double event of both men and iadies matches on the one day should indeed be a novelty, ,
