CHILDREN'S PLAY CENTRE

BIG EFFORT ON TUESDAY In many towns throughout New Zealand children's play centres are now proving a popular and necessary part of the commumty life. To the mother with children who must have dental treatment, consult her medical adviser or cope with her multifarious shopping needs owing to the present day lack of trade deliveries, these centres provide the answer to a very vexed problem. There children may be left for an ho'ur or so, in t-he knowledge that they will be well cared for. That a play centre is to be established in Levin will receive the approval of every citizen with an appreciation of a mother's difficulties to-day. But something more than that approval is needed. The establishment of a centre is not possible without fuhds and required amenities and means of occupation for the children. To this end the committee which is seeking to inaugurate the centre will hold a combined stall and street day on Tuesday next, and it is this effort that the public is asked to support in a very 'generous measure. The street stall will offer a wide variety of saleable goods — needlework, potted meats; vegetables, jams, sweets, etc. Further "dona-. tions? of produce and-- articles ' for sale J will be: gratefully ^received. Collectors will be out. in the street. soliciting donations, and it is hoped that citizens will show the liberal side of their nature and give the collectors the support which the object they are sponsoring deserves. Juiiior Chamber to Help Speaking at the Levin Junior Chamber of Commerce's tea on Ihursday evening, the president (Mr. D. J. Sweetzer) said the first project the chamber would be undertaking was to assist with the establishment of the children's play centre in Levin. Mr. Sweetzer said the board had considered various suggestions at a recent meeting, and he would welcome any ideas from members, and their energy and labour. It was hoped through the efforts of the chamber to obtain the free services of an architect for the scheme.
