PIGS IN SHORT SUPPLY
READY SALE AT LEVIN A large yarding of fat wethers of mixed quality at the weekly stock sale in Levin yesterday caused a drop of from one shilling to three shillings in values. Ewe prices were on a par with last week and noggets met with a better demand, particularly extra prime sorts Lsuitable for butchers. A fair yarding of store sheep did not meet with a brisk demand. Dairy cattle came forw7ard in short supply and the enquiry was slack except for heifers on drop. Smaller yardings of fat cattle, vealers and prime cows sold in advance of previous saies, with boners and fat ex-dairy cows changing hands at late market rates^ There was a very short yarding of pigs bnd extra prime sorts sold very readily. The following •prices were realised: — Sheep: Extra% prime wethers, 39s 2d to 39s lOd; prime, 36s lOd to 37s ld; lighter, 34s 4d to 36s !d; black faces, 32s lOd, 34s 7d to 35s ld; prime fat ewes, 32s 7d to 33s 4d; lighter, down to 27s ld; extra prime fat hoggets, 34s 7d to 36s lOd; prime, 28s lOd to 29s lOd; ljghter, :37s ld; light and unfinished, 25s to 25s lOd. Cattle: Prime veal, £6 12s 6d to £7 12s 6d; lighter, £5 2s 6d, £5 12s 6d to £6 7s 6d; small, £2 2s 6d to £4 12s 6d; prime P.A. fat cows, £11 12s 6d; lighter, £10 to £11 7s 6d; -fat exdairy .cows, £6 15s, £8 to £9 15s; heifers on drop, £12 to £14; September calvers, £7 to £9 10s; weaner heifers, £5 5s to £6 Is; boners and pottejr bulls, late market prices. Pigs: Extra prime bacon, £7; prime pork, £3 11s to £3 14s; Lighter, £2 15s to £2 17s; slips, 35s 6d ! fco 36s 6d; weaners, 21s; light : stores, £2 16s.
