Mr. N. A. Byrne, the newlyappointed principal of Horownenua College, will take up his appointment at the commencement of the next term. , Mr. W. Francis, who has been a member of the Wanganui Garrison Band for more than 35 years, has retired from active work. He began his band career more than 60 years ago and won his first solo championship at the Wellington contest in 1900. His last championship was won in Nelson in 1937. He holds the probably unique record of having. played - the soprano cornet for 40. years," an achievement" that' has not been equalled in New Zealand!
