SYDNEY SWELTERS
Received Monday, 9.0 p.m. SYDNEY, August 12. Today was the hottest August day in Sydney on record. At 1.30 p.m. the reading was 82.6 degrees. The previous record of 82 degrees made in 1884 was passed at 12.30 p.m. This followed a night which broke records "back to 1859, the first year records were taken. The reading at 12.10 a.m. was 69.5 and the temperature soon passed into the seventies, .making the night the hottest since February 3. If no rain falls hefore 9 a.m. tomorrow, an all time record of 32 dry days in Sydney will also be broken.
