Al'ter requests for permission had been refused by the Waterfpont Control Commission, waterside workers discharging a southern produce cargo from the vessel Waiana, left the ship at tliree o'clock this af'ternoon to attend tlie Rugbv League match between England and Auckland at Carlaw Park. The ship was left idle until six o'clock when the men returned to work the evening sliift. About 130 men were involved. Although a request was made by the Auckland Waterside Workers Union for leave for all its members to see the game, only the men on the Waiana left tlieir work. A separatb request from the Waiana 's men was also declined.
