NO ANSWER UNTIL

COUNTY ATTITUDE TO PLAN FOR AERODROME PRESS ARTICLE CRITICISED Critic.ism of anv' article appearing in "The Chronicle" recently in regard to the attitude of the Horowhenua County Council towards a request from the Levin Aero Club for- an annual grant to assist in obtaining flying rights over the aerodrome used. during the war years by the R.N.Z.A.F. in order to provide Levin and district with an airfield, was 'made at this month's meeting of the council by (jr. A. M. Colquhoun. Cr. Colquhoun said the article he referred to was one which said in effect that the County Council was not co-operating in the club's scheme. The point was not whether the council was co-operating or otherwise; until it received information from the club as to the terms made with the occupiers of the land it could not consider the request. He felt that the article was unfair. t The chairman, Mr. G. A. Monk, said that what the Borough Council did had nothing whatever to do with what the County Council did. Their poSitions were entirely different, particularly geographically. The council was still waiting for information from the club as to the terms of tenure of the land, and when that was received one council would answer the club's request. The club had said that it would proceed with negotiations in regard to the terms of tenure of the land when the grant had been made by the council. The council's attitude to the matter was the reverse. "We don't blame the Borough Council for what they have done," Mr. Monk continued, "but there is no blame attributable to the County Council. It has not turned the request down." He added that there would be no answer from the council until the information asked for was forthcoming.
