£EAR REVIEWED AND OFFICERS ELECTEB The annual meeting of the Horowhenua Jersey Cattle Breeders' Club was held in Levin yesterday. There was a fair attendance, and ohe president (Mr. I. D. Parsons) occupied the chair. Apologies were received from Messrs. Hudson, Evans and Manson. Before the business of the meeting commenced, the president reierred briefly to the recent death of an old member, Mr. A. S. Macfarlane. Members expressed their regret by standing in silence for a jhort period.
54 The Past Year The president then read his report for the past year, which was as follows:— "Another Very successful year has passed for our Jersey Club. The membership has improved and many of our memoers were successiul with their exhibits at the local show and other shows in the district. During the year we held a very pleasant neld day at Mr. Allan Horn's farm, and we were- given- a very leamea demonstration by Mr. Moreland, after which we were escorted around the stud and stock. "Many members had cattle classified, and the standard of the stock in the district was spoken very highly of by the classifiers. "It is with much pleasure that I wish to congratulate Mr. H. J. Lancaster on his election to the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders' Council. In this district we have oeen without a representative on che council and with many breeders here I think that the time was most opportune. "I wisii to thank members for the support they have given me during tne past year, and for the greac nelp that they have given in donations to the prize money for show purposes; to the ladies I wish to express a deep and sincere vote of chanks for tne help they nave always given our club on the occasion of the field days; to the Press for their good work in the reports in their paper; and to our very worthy secretary, Mr. J. A. Goodwin, the thanks of the club is due ior the good work he has done." Mr. Parsons also referred to Ihe balance sheet, saying that it showed that tfhe club was in good heart. The balance sheet showed how much had been donated for additional prize money at the Horowhenua A. and P. Show. They were as follows: — Messrs. I. D. Parsons £5 5s, H. J. Lancaster £3 3s, J. H. Taylor £3 3s, J. G. Horn £3 3s, A. J. Dupont £3 3s, W. H. Gordon £2 2s, A. Hudson £2 2s, A. S. Horn £2 2s, Macfarlane Bros. £2 2s, P. R. Catley £1 ls, F. Lang £1 ls, Lionel Clark £1 ls and J. A. Goodwin £1 4s. Commenting on the report and balance sheet, Mr. H. J.- Lancaster said that the show had had a close call with Jersey entries as regards numbers in competition with Ayrshires. They were very close behind them. They should keep ahead of the Ayrshires, who put on a good show last year. He congratulated the president on his report. Officers Elected The election of officers resulted as follows: — Patron: Mr. J. H. Taylor; president: Mr. I. D. Parsons; vice-presidents: Messrs. A. Hudson, J. G. Horn, B. R. Robinson and P. R. Catley; committee: Messrs. A. J. Dupont, A. S. Horn, in addition to the existing committee; secretary: Mr. J. A. Goodwin; honorary auditor: Mr. P. C. Hill. General Matters It was decided to send a letter to Mr. C. G. C. Dermer, recording the club's appreciation of his service as this district's representative on the Jersey Council for 32 years. A donation of £1 ls was made co the Horowhenua Boys' and Girls' Agricultural Club, and Mr. H. J.; Lancaster was appointed the club'srepresentative on that body. 5 The meeting closed with a vote oi Jianks to the chair.
