EMPLOYMENT SERVICE

SUB-AGENCY IN LEVIN With the passing of the Employment Act last year, the National Employment Service was brought into being. The department, now JAilly functioning throughout New Zealand, is charged with the obligation of maintaining full and suitable employment for all, anddistrict offices are operating in each of the larger cities and towns, with appropriate sub-agencies in the more extensive areas. Palmerston North is the central offlce of this district, the officer in charge being Mr. L. W. Cozens, who has been appointed district employment officer. In Levin the social security officer acts as agent in all matters pertaining to the National Employment Service in Levin. All persons seeking employment or change of employment, and employers in need of assistance to fill vacancies, should notify their requirements to the district agent when the whole of the National Employment facilities will be placed at their disposal. Informatio.n is available there of vacancies throughout New Zealand, and of persons in other districts who are prepared t.o take employment m any district. The service is freeiy given and no one should hesitate to consult the local district agent of the National Employment Service. An additional activity of the department is the half-yearly collection of employment data. The first return as at April, 1946, has been completed and a further return will be due in October next. Officers of the department will pay regular visits to Levin and will be glad to render any additional assistance desired in relation to either the industrial survey or employment matters.
