A light framed six-year-old bay gelding, Dumbo is owned by the Matamata trainer, G. Cobb. Re has done inost ot his steepleehasing in reeent months, but hud good experienee over hurdles earlier. He was unplaced in the Waikato Steeplechase aud luter fell iu the Winter Steeplechase at Ellerslie. An improved' showing in the Waikato Hack aud Hunter*' Steeplechase yielded a poor second to Tideover, and his lirst winning run as a 'chaser eame in tnu Combincd Hunt Cup at New Plymoutn, when he beat weak opposition. At his latest start he won the Corbett Alemorial Steeplechase at Alatamata, again aieeting weak opposition. However, his winning cfforts were very easily aclueved and he looks the best prospect or Ihe northern candidates iu tomorrow 's big event.
