CONCERT IN GARDENS
LEVIN BAND'S FIRST PUBLIC APPEARANCE That the absence of a brass band has been noticed by the citizens of Levin was emphasised yesterday afternoon, when a large number, taking advantage of the brignt sunshine, visited the Levin Public Gardens for the first appearance in public of the Levin Municipal Band, under the baton of Mr. G. R. Lester. A bright programme of music was provided, the first item being most appropriate for the occasion, a march entitled "Our Town Band." The rendering of two hymns, "Old Earth" and "New Rochdale," were much appreciated, while "Sussex by the Sea" was one of the numbers that proved most popular and drew forth much applause. The band was fortunate in having a fine afternoon for its initial performance, after a week of indifferent weatner, and no doubt will be in demand at the several public functions in Levin, which have had to get along without the added attraction of a brass band during the war years.
