Miss Pat Quinn has returned to Levin from a holiday at the Hutt. The death has occurred of Profe^'dr Gouldy 'aged 89, wellknown for his long association with the Victoria University College as professor of education. Among the awards announced yesterday by the Minister of Defence (Mr. Jones) to members of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. for distinguished and valuable service over.seas were T/W.O.II M. Quirke, of Manakau, and Sgt. J. H. Bryant, of Waikanae. Both were Mentioned in Despatches. At the largest meeting of the National Party ever held at headquarters of the Waimarino electorate, Taumarunui, Mr. N. R. Hill was selected as official candidate to contest the seat at the next general election. Mr. Hill is a freezing worker living at Waitara. He is also a returned soldier, aged 36.
