AUCKLAND, July 10. Comments 011 tlie fact that the proposal to send 10,000,0001bs. of butter to America would injure the campaign, were made at a meeting of the Auckland Famine Emergency Committee today. A statement from Wellington eriticising Auckland 's effort also came under fire. , The Alavor, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, said Xew Zealanders were making great sacriflces not only th-rQugh the general campaign but also sending private foojtl p a.rceJ s. t o po 0 p 1 e i i i t a i n . There "were about 1500 bags each containing about 12 parcels for Britain, going th rough Auckland post offiee each week. The effeets of the butter deal with America were mentioned by Mr. R. M. Barker, seeretary of the Auckland Master Grocers' Association, who said the groeers had reported that the response to the coupon saving appeal had t'allen off. He also referred to the statement made in Wellington about Mr. Allum 's remarks 011 the butter deal. "If T get any further abuse from Wellington T am going to be very terse and T can be terse, " said Mr. Allum. "T am not going to be subjeet to criticism from anonvmous people in Wellington wliose statements are rude and offensixm to Auckland lieople. I was asked for faets about Ihe public reaction to the butter proposals and I gave them. The campaign has been unfortunate from the outset.
