FINANCIAL SIDE NOT THOUGHT IMPORTANT

Tlie Minister of Food (Mr.' Straehey) said to-day that finance was not an important aspect of the deal under whieh, America took New Zealand butter and' gave Biiitain fats in exchange. He was not interested in prolit making, but in artanging the supply. He was satislied with tlie deel whicli would probably mean that Britain would receive a larger quantity of fats, but of lower quality. Alr. Straehey announced that he had invited the Eiro Government to send* agricultural experts to Britain to discuss increasing the supplies of meat, eggs and butter from Eire, but he gave a warning that sensational inereases •ould not lie expected. ATr. .StraclJey said that he had agreed to discuss bread rationing witli the bakers, but nothing they eould say was likely to alter the position. Thej^ were in no belter position to give advice about the supply outlook than the ordinary citizen.
