This was decided at a conferen'ce between the Cominonwealth Government, tlie Premier of New Soutli Wales, and the Premier of Victoria. The new dam will enable a deeision to be made later whether to divert water into the Murray River, as proposed by Victoria, or into the Murruni nidgee. as proposed by JN'uw wouth Wales/ The Vietorian Premier (Mr. Cain) says that the Vietorian plan would save a million tons of coal a year by providing increased hydro-electric power, and would also irrigate lands in three States. The Premier of New South Wales (Mr. McKell) claims that apart from the generation of power the New South Wales scheme would enable the deve!opment of 5,000,000 aercs of land.
